Multi-signer documents and signing order, explained

Plenty of agreements need more than one signature — a contract between two companies, an offer that needs a manager's countersignature, or a form routed through several approvers. Here's how multi-signer documents and signing order work, and when to use them.

One document, several signers

Instead of emailing copies back and forth, you send a single document and add each signer with their name and email. Each person gets their own secure link and only sees the fields assigned to them.

Signing order: sequential vs. simultaneous

Signing order decides whether people sign one after another or all at once. Sequential signing is the default for contracts: signer one completes their part, then signer two is automatically notified that it's their turn, and so on.

This prevents awkward situations — like a manager countersigning before the employee has accepted — and keeps a clean, logical record of who signed when.

Automatic notifications keep things moving

Each signer is emailed exactly when it's their turn, so nobody has to chase the document manually. If a signer goes quiet, automatic reminders nudge them. You can watch progress on your dashboard the whole time.

When the last signer finishes, the document is finalized and everyone — including you — gets the completed PDF with the full audit trail.
